The incident happened in the 22nd minute of the game, when the scoreline was 0-0. West Ham United's Croatian midfielder Nikola Vlasic and the Clarets' Westwood both challenged for a 50-50 ball. While it was Vlasic who got the ball, he caught the ankle of Westwood in the process.

The 32-year-old Englishman was left in agony, as from the visuals it seemed that Vlasic snapped his ankles. The Hammers' man himself was left visibly distraught as he was reduced to tears and needed consolation from teammates Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice and Burnley's Maxwel Cornet.
Westwood received treatment on the pitch for whole 10 minutes before being subbed off. The entire crowd at the London Stadium gave a standing ovation to Westwood and the football fraternity will now unite in their prayers for a speedy recovery of the player.

As for the match itself, Burnley played out a 1-1 stalemate against West Ham United. Playing without a manager after the sacking of Sean Dyche, the Clarets struck first in the 33rd minute through a Wout Weghorst strike, but a 74th minute Tomas Soucek goal earned a point for the hammers.
