Introduction:
OnePlus has already launched a few smartphones so far this year. Unlike its initial years, OnePlus now releases a bevvy of phones that come at different price points.
The upcoming OnePlus 10R is essentially a renamed version of the OnePlus 10 Ace, which is arriving in China on April 21. OnePlus has confirmed the biggest highlight of the OnePlus 10R would be the support for 150W fast charging technology - something that we recently saw on the Realme GT Neo 3. And if that is not enough to compare the two phones, the OnePlus 10R will also have an 80W fast charging model, which, of course, would come at a cheaper price.
OnePlus 10R launch date in India
OnePlus has announced it will hold an event on April 28 to launch the OnePlus 10R in India. The event will also see the launch of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite and the new OnePlus Nord Buds. The event is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm IST and there will be live streams available for fans to catch real-time updates.
Even though the date is a little too far away, we will see the phone earlier than that. That is because OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 10 Ace in China on April 21. Unless OnePlus decides to tweak the specifications of the OnePlus 10 Ace a bit and rename that specific model as the OnePlus 10R, both phones are likely to be the same. That means the same specifications and the same design.
OnePlus 10R features, specifications
The OnePlus 10R is going to stand out from the crowd of smartphones in the affordable segment. That is because of the chipset that this phone would use. OnePlus announced that the 10R will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX. It is a new chip tuned for better and sustained performance just for the OnePlus 10R. That essentially means that it is going to be faster than the existing Dimensity 8100-powered phones and offer improvements in battery life.
Navnit Nakra, the chief executive of OnePlus India, told India Today Tech in an exclusive chat that the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX will offer the OnePlus 10R users "superb performance at a fairly affordable price point." He was referring to the flagship-level performance that users will get to experience without having to spend loads of money.
This will be the first time a OnePlus phone has used a MediaTek chipset - something that might turn off loyalists. But Nakra said the company is not worried about any such concerns because it takes a step after taking the feedback of the OnePlus community.
For now, the OnePlus 10R sounds promising, especially if you take a look at the specifications, which are a part of the ongoing rumors but not yet confirmed by the brand. Rumors are rife that the OnePlus 10R is not just a renamed version of the OnePlus 10 Ace, it is also a rebranded version of the Realme GT Neo 3. Except for the design and the chipset, both the phones could be the same. That means we can expect the specifications of the GT Neo 3 to be available on the upcoming OnePlus 10R.
With that in mind, we can safely assume the OnePlus 10R will come with a 6.7-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, support for HDR10+, and protection on top using the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The OnePlus 10R may come with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It may feature a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary camera in the rear system, while the selfie camera could use a 16-megapixel selfie sensor. Then, the biggest highlight, as we said, would be the 150W charging support on a 4500mAh battery. An 80W charging option would also be available, but for a 5000mAh battery unit.
