David Warner played a stellar knock on Saturday (April 16) but couldn't take Delhi Capitals over the line against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Chasing 190 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, DC got off to a flying start with openers Prithvi Shaw and Warner going all guns blazing. While Shaw was dismissed for 16, Warner went on to smash his second successive half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

He even looked all set to take DC to their third win of the season. However, leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed him in the 12th over, turning the tide in RCB's favour. It was indeed a suicidal shot from Warner as he went for a reverse sweep but missed the ball completely and was trapped in front of the wickets. Hence, he had to walk back after scoring 66 off 38 deliveries.

Here’s the video of David Warner’s dismissal:

David Warner's dismissal was the turning point

As Warner's stay ended in the middle, DC fans in the stands were disappointed and so were the southpaw's daughters Ivy Mae and Indi Rae. Following the conclusion of the game, Warner's wife Candice took to Twitter and shared a collage of her daughters' reaction to the opening batter's dismissal. "When daddy gets out the girls are heartbroken. @davidwarner31," read the caption.

Meanwhile, Warner's dismissal was certainly a turning point of the game as DC lost the momentum afterwards. The southpaw's fellow countryman Mitchell Marshendured a tough time against RCB and scored a 24-ball 14. While skipper Rishabh Pant played some delightful shots, he was also dismissed for 34 while trying to up the ante. Eventually, DC were restricted to 173/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Following the conclusion of the game, captain Pant lauded Warner's stellar knock but reckoned the lack of contribution from other batters led to the team's downfall. "I think Warner batted beautifully and gave us every chance to win the match. Can’t blame Marsh, it was his first match and looked a bit rusty, but we could have done better in the middle overs," said the 24-year-old.
